I am using this example because it is actually very good. However, I do believe there is some missing information in the phase section, which I will deal with in some detail later.
Next, the co-owners review the details of the project that they discussed in their preliminary meeting. Review what we are doing, why we are doing it, what the business objectives and outcomes are, and who the stakeholders are; then identify who will actually be doing the design work. At this point, the design brief project team is invited to comment and/or ask questions. Each member of the team should also be asked for his or her specific inputs to this project. A word of caution here. This is not a meeting to design anything.
A well-written design brief is a written agreement, or contract, between the parties involved with the project. A design brief is also a road map, if you will, that defines the various steps that will be followed from the inception of the project to its completion. Design briefs must include a considerable amount of both business strategy and design strategy. In fact, it is helpful to think of a design brief as a business plan. It is likely that most of your nondesign business partners in a design project have been to a business school.
